the ultimate battle

When Napoleon abdicated in April 1814 it seemed that the long wars in Europe were over. However, in February 1815, the Corsican left the island of Elba, returned to France and, in an unexpected breakthrough, seized power in Paris after the Bourbons fled. Sovereigns across Europe soon declared war not on France, but on Napoleon himself.

The emperor was quick to organise his troops and launch an offensive against the two enemy armies intimidating him from what is now Belgium. After surprising them and defeating the Prussians, his attention turned to the Anglo-Allied troops of the Duke of Wellington, who were waiting for him in a pre-chosen position, awaiting Blücher’s promised support: the battlefield of Waterloo.

“Raul was an absolutely fantastic battlefield tour guide. He really brought the battle alive, and with a genuine enthusiasm that would be hard to fake. We opted for a private tour, which meant he was able to tune his presentation to our level of knowledge of the event. His English was great too. We had a brilliant holiday, and our tour of this battle was the highlight. Thanks so much Raul!”
